Free Craft Resources

I'm a big believer in the importance of crafts. Art is all about the visual, while craft is about the creation. It requires skill, technique, and is usually rooted in tradition. Crafts encourage patience, concentration, planning, and dexterity: all skills that provide huge benefits to children (and to anyone).

Free Resources

The Mary Frances Sewing book is part of an early 20th century series designed to teach girls traditional homemaker crafts. The sewing book garnered a reprint a few years ago, and became something of a cult classic because it's a sweet but practical way to introduce hand sewing to a child. As stated, there's a whole series of them, but be warned that some of them are horribly racist and I wouldn't use.
