Free Literature Resources

Once students have the basic mechanics of reading down, it's time to start introducing them to the joys of literature! This section consists of resources for finding free, high-quality, entertaining, reading materials.

Book Lists

MENSA for Kids

You don't have to be super smart to appreciate this list. MENSA actually puts out one of my favorite lists of children's literature. It's broken down roughly by grade level, and you can't go wrong. Look for the grade level "up" from your child for read-aloud ideas.

The American Library Association has a long list of awards they give every year. Some, such as the Newbery Award, the Caldecott Award, and the Corretta Scott King Award, you may have heard of. Others are a little bit more obscure. But all of the books have been chosen by librarians around the country as great reads. It can be particularly interesting to watch how trends in books have changed over the years.
