Free Health and Physical Education Resources

Everyone hates gym, right? But it doesn't have to be that way! Encourage your child to develop lifelong healthy habits.

Free Resources about Physical Education

Ah, good old gym class. Who doesn't remember being smacked in the face with a dodge ball, and having to run laps in hundred degree weather when the gym teacher had completely given up on doing anything creative or fun by the end of the year? But exercise doesn't have to be a chore! Let some of these sites help you come up with fun ways to keep your body moving.

The CDC publishes a resource for gym teachers called Body and Mind, or BAM! It covers a complete physical education and health curriculum for grades K-8, including nutrition, health, differences and disabilities, hygiene, and more. Even though this resource is designed for schools, I think it could be very useful for homeschooling families, too.

Mystery Science is a subscription site, but they have a significant amount of free content. They have a rotating free science lesson on their home page, but if you search around, you'll find even more. Many of the projects have easy experiments that go with them. When I taught, I had a reputation as an amazing science teacher who was always doing interesting experiments, and my only secret to that success was Mystery Science.

The Boston Museum of Science has a great website with lots of experiments and information for families.

Free Resources about Health and Hygiene

It's important to teach children about good health and hygiene habits from an early age. This is something that schools often neglect, which harms the children who need it the most.

This is a great resource for videos about health, exercise, and other lessons that might fall under physical education and health. Each video suggests what grades it's good for, and the audience ranges from kindergarten up through 12th grade.
